Albert Gerling
Albert Gerling (* 1636 , † the 30th October 1684 ) was mayor in Brilon .
He was elected to office in 1682 and re-elected in 1683 and 1684. Gerling was a successful and wealthy merchant in Brilon. As a provisional ecclesiae he administered the assets of the church community. In a witch trial file it is reported that Gerling had two women accused of sorcery and witchcraft horribly tortured in the infirmary without the judge's prior knowledge . The infirmary served as an isolation facility at the time. He was married to Anna Koch. His large cast-iron grave plate is exhibited in the tower of the provost church .
