Albert Stallard

Albert William Stallard, Baron Stallard ( November 5, 1921 - March 29, 2008 ) was a British politician ( Labor ).

Albert Stallard, better known by his nickname Jock Stallard, was a member of the House of Commons from 1970 to 1983 and was elected for the constituency of St Pancras North . In the February 1974 and October 1974 elections he defeated his Conservative Party opponent , future Prime Minister John Major .

In 1974 he became Parliamentary State Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and shortly thereafter became Minister of Housing in the Callaghan government .

In 1983 he was promoted to Life Peer as Baron Stallard , of St. Pancras in the London Borough of Camden , and was henceforth a member of the House of Lords , most recently he was granted leave of absence .
