Albert Wiederspiel (born November 5, 1960 in Warsaw , Poland ) has been director of the Hamburg Film Festival since 2003 .

Childhood and youth

As a result of anti-Semitic riots in Poland in 1968, the family had to emigrate to Denmark in 1969 ( March 1968 unrest in Poland ). Wiederspiel grew up in Copenhagen and studied film studies in Paris .

Live and act

After completing his studies, he began as a trainee at 20th Century Fox Intl. In 1985, from where he moved to 20th Century Fox of Germany as PR and finally marketing director and worked until 1995. From 1996 to 2000 he was Marketing Director and finally General Manager - Theatrical at PolyGram Film Entertainment and Universal Pictures Germany. Wiederspiel is a member of the European Film Academy and was named Chevalier de l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight in the Order for Art and Literature) in 2013. His contract as director of the Hamburg Film Festival was extended for another five years in 2018.

Albert Wiederspiel lives with his husband, the actor Gustav Peter Wöhler , in Hamburg and Berlin .
