Alberto Rodríguez Barrera (born April 1, 1974 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican football player on the position of defender .

Life

Rodríguez received his first professional contract in the 1992/93 season with his hometown club Club Universidad Nacional and moved in 1994 to the second division CF Pachuca , with whom he won the second division championship of the 1995/96 season. After relegation at the end of the 1996/97 season, he moved to CF Monterrey , where he could not prevail. After the immediate resurgence of the Tuzos in the Primera División , he returned to Pachuca in 1998 and was there for the next seven years under contract. During this time he won three championship titles and in 2002 the CONCACAF Champions' Cup .

In 2005 he moved back to his hometown, where he has since been under contract with the CD Cruz Azul , although since summer 2008 he has only been used for their branch team Cruz Azul Hidalgo, which plays in the second division .

National team

Between 2001 and 2005 Rodríguez came to 13 international appearances for the Mexican national team . His first international match took place on July 15, 2001 as part of the Copa América 2001 against Paraguay (0-0), his last international match was a friendly against Hungary on December 14, 2005 and was won 2-0. At the Soccer World Cup 2002 Rodríguez was part of the Mexican squad , but was not used.
