Alberto da Zara

Alberto da Zara (* 1889 in Padua , † 1951 in Foggia ) was an Italian vice admiral .

In the skirmishes in June 1942 he had the upper hand in the fight against the Royal Navy . He was considered one of the most capable and charismatic admirals of the Regia Marina . Still, he was repeatedly preferred to technocratic leaders like Admiral Angelo Iachino .

Alberto Da Zara was appointed chief of the fleet on September 10, 1943, two days after the armistice with the Allies came into force . He remained in this post until September 1946.
