history

From 1949 T-bar lifts were built in Stuben on a private initiative. 1949 a pendulum lift for three people each on the Gitzibühel, in 1953 a pendulum lift in the area of the Upper Angers, which was replaced in 1956 by a tow lift that still exists today (also: Walchlift after one of the initiators, Adolf Walch).

On May 28, 1956, the proponents of the later company applied for a permit under railway law. The required inspection took place on June 30, 1956 and on July 27, 1956 the constituent meeting of the Albonabahn Gesellschaft mbH was held in the Hotel Mondschein and in the same year the Albonabahn was built as a single chair lift. The railway law negotiation took place on March 14, 1957 and on April 13, the railway was put into operation by the initiators Emil Walch, Hansl Steiner and Mayor Karl Brändle. Erich Berthold was the manager at the time. Because of the large ground clearances, for reasons of railway law, there was initially an operating joint venture with the Muttersbergseilbahn in Bludenz, whereby the Albonabahn I and II facilities were subordinated to the Federal Ministry of Transport. In 1963 the Albonabahn was also operated in summer for the first time.

In 1964, a drag lift was built from the Grünen Bühel to the Seeli to relieve the Albonabahn II , which was extended to the middle station a year later and designed as a curved lift . Replaced ten years later by the Sonnleiten T-bar lift, which in turn was replaced by the Albonagrat double chairlift in 1984.

In 1978, due to the urgently needed investments, new partners joined forces and a new operating company was founded, the Stubener tourist company, Erich Brunner became managing director. In 1983 the construction of the section I to the lift to a double chairlift, 1985, the new building of the Section II. On 13 March 1988 the valley station to the lift, Section I, of a powder avalanche damage and then built the explosive cable cars Albona East and Albona West. In the same year the Albona Gratstube was opened. The restaurant at the Albona middle station was reopened in 1991.

The last major modernization step took place in 2016 with the construction of the Albonabahn II cable car and the Flexenbahn from Alpe Rauz . Subsequently (after the construction of the Albonabahn II) it is also planned to renew section I of the Albonabahn.
