Ski Arlberg ski area
Ski Arlberg ski area on the map |
The Ski Arlberg ski area is a ski area on the border between the Austrian states of Vorarlberg and Tyrol and has been the largest contiguous ski area in Austria since the 2016/17 season. The resorts of Klösterle , Lech , Oberlech , Schröcken , St. Anton am Arlberg , St. Christoph am Arlberg , Stuben , Stubenbach , Warth , Zürs and Zug have been part of the ski area since 2013 . The Arlberg is considered to be the cradle of alpine skiing . Due to the tradition and the sometimes particularly demanding slopes, especially with regard to deep snow routes and variants, the ski area is one of the most popular in the world.
The highest point in the ski area is at the summit of the Valluga at 2811 m above sea level. A. in St. Anton ; the last cable car section to the summit (Vallugabahn II) can only be used with ski equipment if you are accompanied by a mountain guide. The highest "freely" passable elevation is thus the middle station of the Vallugabahn at 2645 m above sea level. A. Height.
The main area consists of three parts, these are Ski Arlberg West (Lech, Zürs), Ski Arlberg East (St. Anton, St. Christoph, Stuben) and the Snowworld-Warth-Schröcken. Lech has been connected to Schröcken by the Auenfeldjet 10- person gondola lift since the 2013/14 season , and the Flexenbahn 10- person gondola lift between the Arlberg East and West areas was opened in the 2016/17 season . Ski Arlberg also includes the Sonnenkopf ski area between Klösterle and Dalaas and also some small ski areas in the Lech Valley, such as. B. the Jöchlspitze in Bach , the family ski lifts Stanzach , the Gföllberg lift in Holzgau and the Knittel ski lifts in Elbigenalp .

Projects
A planned merger between St. Anton and Kappl, which had previously been officially approved, was withdrawn by the Federal Administrative Court in a further procedure in November 2018. The reason is too strong an encroachment on nature in the Malfontal. It is not yet known whether the railway operators will object.
There are plans to build a village railway from Schröcken to the ski area in the next few years if the necessary funding is available. The permits for this have already been received, but the facility would be unprofitable given the number of beds in the town.
Other projects are the planned new construction of the Schindlergratbahn and Madlochbahn. Both are to run as a monocable gondola on a slightly modified route.
