Albrecht Glockendon the Elder

Albrecht Glockendon the Elder (* before 1500 in Nuremberg ; † 1545 there ) was a form cutter , illuminist, letter painter and illuminator in the imperial city of Nuremberg .

Albrecht Glockendon came from the Glockendon family of artists . He took over the workshop of his father Georg Glockendon . His brother Nikolaus Glockendon was also active as an artist. Albrecht Glockendon worked according to his own designs and models from other artists such as Albrecht Dürer , Lucas van Leyden and Heinrich Aldegrever .

Penance prayer book by Albrecht Glockendon

Glockendon's most famous work today is a handwritten penitential prayer book in Latin with its illuminations from the years 1532/33. The contract for the so-called Bußgebetbuch Albrecht Glockendon granted Johann II. Von Pfalz-Simmern . It is owned by the Bavarian State Library and bears the signature BSB Clm 10013 (as of 2014). A facsimile of the penitential prayer book from 2010 is available in the reading room of the State Library.
