Von Linde is the son of sports sponsor Werner von Linde , who among other things is the namesake of a sports hall in the Olympic Park in Munich , and acts as the patron of the Werner von Linde Sports Festival , also named after his father , the largest children's and youth sports festival in Germany. As a candidate for the fan association “Pro 1860” and successor to Alfred Lehner , he was appointed president of TSV 1860 Munich by the supervisory board. TV producer Otto Steiner became vice-president and head of the supervisory board of TSV 1860 GmbH & Co. KGaA , in whose favor von Linde was to step down after 1½ years in office. On September 6, 2007, however, Steiner resigned from his office. On November 18, 2007, Linde was confirmed by the association's delegates. Former soccer coach Karsten Wettberg and SPD politician Franz Maget were appointed vice-presidents by Linde .

At a press conference after TSV 1860's home game against Osnabrück on May 11, 2008, managing director Stefan Ziffzer said the following about von Linde: "The fish stinks from the head, and that's the president for us (...) This president is a shame for the club. " Subsequently, von Linde announced Ziffzer's termination without notice in the VIP lounge.

On May 26, 2008, Linde announced his resignation from the presidency.
