Conception Bay South is a town ( Town ) on the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador belonging island Newfoundland .
Conception Bay South is located on the southeast coast of Conception Bay in the east of the Avalon Peninsula . The place is located about 10 km southwest of the provincial capital St. John’s and is one of its metropolitan areas. Most of the residents are employed in the nearby towns of St. John's and Mount Pearl .
The city was formed in 1973 as a merger of nine parishes: Topsail, Chamberlains, Manuels, Long Pond, Foxtrap, Kelligrews, Upper Gullies, Lawrence Pond, and Seal Cove. Conception Bay South is now the second largest municipality in the province by population. The municipal boundaries of the city largely coincide with the boundaries of the constituency of the same name, Conception Bay South . Mayor is currently Woodrow "Woody" French.
In the 2016 census, the population was 26,199. Five years earlier there were 24,848 inhabitants.
