The Alcock Island (or Alcock Island ) is a 1.26 km long island off the Danco coast of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is 3.4 miles west of Charles Point in Hughes Bay .
Whalers originally named the island Penguin Island or Penguin Island in 1922 . However, since this name never appeared on maps and Penguin Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands already bears the same, this name was discarded. The current namesake is the British pilot John William Alcock (1892-1919), who, together with his compatriot Arthur Whitten Brown , made the first transatlantic non-stop flight between June 14 and 15, 1919.
