Aldie Castle

Aldie Castle is a tower house near the Scottish village of Crook of Devon in the Council Area Perth and Kinross . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

By marriage, the Aldie estate was transferred from the Tullibardine branch of the Murray clan to the Mercers around 1350 . In the course of the early 16th century, a defense tower was built there, the nucleus of Aldie Castle. In the later 16th century the building was extended by two wings. Later Aldie Castle went to the Marquess of Lansdowne . In 1929 the condition of Aldie Castle was described as near ruin. I. G. Lindsay was entrusted with the restoration of the Tower House .

description

The two- to four-story Tower House is isolated around 2.5 kilometers southeast of Crook of Devon and the same distance east of Powmill . The wings enclose a very small courtyard on three sides. A formerly added south wing has since been demolished and replaced by a longer and wider part of the building. Corner tours protrude . The final roofs are designed with graduated gables .
