Aldrin is a small impact crater in the southern part of Mare Tranquillitatis , east of Sabine crater . It is located about 50 kilometers northwest of the Apollo 11 landing site and about 30 kilometers west of the landing site of the lunar probe Surveyor 5 .
Named for Buzz Aldrin , the pilot of the Apollo 11 mission's Eagle Lunar Module , it is the westernmost in a series of three craters named in honor of the Apollo 11 crew members.
Before the renaming by the International Astronomical Union (IAU), he served as Sabine B known.
