Profile in the BoxRec database

Alejandro Lakatos (* 3. December 1973 in Vulcan, Romania ) is a former boxer in light heavyweight . He is a three-time Latin Master and multiple contender for the WBO and WBA . Fights against Dariusz Michalczewski and Zsolt Erdei made him a box-office magnet and member of the public for years.

Career

Lakatos won his first eighteen professional fights. During this time he was able to become Latin champions several times against Marco Antonio Duante, Aaron Orlando Seria and Roberto Dominguez.

Fight against Dariusz Michalczewski

On May 5, 2001 there was a clash with the WBO and former WBA and IBF world champion Dariusz Michalczewski . The Pole, who at the time was considered the greatest light heavyweight alongside Roy Jones junior , was undefeated in 43 fights and held his title for more than 7 years. Lakatos went into the ring as a clear underdog and could not pose any difficulties for the world champion. After the native Romanian was way behind on points, he often beat the world champion below the belt, which annoyed the world champion so much that he knocked out Lakatos in round 9. Lakatos came up with the back of his head and spectators even suspected an unconsciousness. Lakatos was not unconscious, but the Romanian was still very battered and therefore did not get up at 10. Michalczewski won the fight by knockout in the ninth round and retained his title.

After several victorious fights, he fought against Elvis Mihailenko for the vacant WBA title. The fight was less spectacular and Mihailenko defended his title by 1: 2 referee votes.

After more victorious fights, he challenged the WBO world champion Zsolt Erdei , who previously won the title against Julio Gonzalez . Lakatos lost the duel unanimously on points.

His last fight was against Abdelkahim Dehal in 2010. He won this unanimously.

Private

Lakatos is a native Romanian, but changed his citizenship to Spanish.
