Jose Alejandro Solalinde Guerra (born March 19, 1945 in Toluca , State of Mexico , Republic of Mexico ) is a Mexican priest and human rights activist .

Live and act

Solalinde studied history, philosophy, Catholic theology, classical literature and family therapy at various universities in Mexico. He worked as a priest for many years when he founded the " Hermanos en el Caminos " center in Ixtepec in the state of Oaxaca in 2007 . He also heads the " Pastoral de movilidad humano pacifico sur del episcopado mexicano ". He is the official representative of the diocese diocese Tehuantepec for pastoral social work. He is known throughout Mexico for his work.

The focus of his work is on protecting and caring for migrants who are traveling through Mexico from other parts of Latin America and who are often kidnapped, raped, mistreated and killed. He cannot expect help from the regional authorities; these and the drug cartels are now massively trying to kill him. The priest has now received many death threats. In 2012, the priest was openly threatened by telling him that the killer had already been ordered and paid for him. The drug mafia put $ 300,000 on his head.

Due to the massive threat, he has lived in the USA since May 16, 2012. Due to his commitment, the priest was inexplicably degraded by the responsible diocesan bishop to a simple parish priest. In addition, he is no longer allowed to lead his aid organization.

In November 2014, the state of Oaxaca appointed Alejandro Solalinde as head of the Truth Commission ( Comisión de la Verdad ), which is to investigate the conflict in Oaxaca in 2006 and 2007, including any responsibility of the then Governor Ulises Ruiz Ortiz for the human rights violations committed in those years .
