Live and act

Aleksandra Koneva was born in Kazakhstan and grew up in Saint Petersburg (formerly Leningrad). She completed her studies in art education at the Pedagogical University in St. Petersburg from 1990 to 1996 with a diploma. In 1994 she enrolled for a guest semester at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and studied in AR Penck's graphics class .

She has lived in Berlin since 1996 and works as a freelance artist. As part of the education program of the Berlin Philharmonic , she led four projects in the visual arts section with the sculptor Michael Friedrichs-Friedlaender from 2003 to 2005 . Aleksandra Koneva's works of art include pictures, collages, objects and photographs. Characteristic of her art is the playful, skilled use of various techniques and unusual materials. In 2012 she received an artist in residence grant as part of the Passion Bild exhibition on Russian art since 1970 by the Arina Kowner Art Foundation and Collection in Switzerland. From 2001 to 2014 she worked with Galerie Sandmann (Marina Sandmann, Gallery and Art Management) in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Her works are in public and private collections in Switzerland, Germany, the USA, England and Russia.

As an artist with Russian roots and a Soviet past, she often uses Russian-influenced topics. Important works are the photo series Sowki (2009), Kommunales Land , a 15-part composition (2010) and the diary of a conformist (2010), in which Koneva also acts as a writer (Kerber Verlag). The book gives an insight into her childhood and adolescence during the USSR to the Brezhnev era . Aleksandra Koneva dedicated a 10-part series to her second hometown, Berlin: Berliner Album (2003–2006) is a half-made-up, half-autobiographical story in which Berlin sights function as scenes. Popular motifs in her art are the world-famous Disney characters . In the series Dostojevski and Disney I (2006) and Dostojevski and Disney II (2010) she juxtaposes East and West as two cultures.

In 2016, Aleksandra Koneva founded her own label Sascha Koneva Berlin . The focus of her creations lies in the design of fabrics, the motifs of which predominantly emerge from her own visual arts. The design consisting of printed fabrics, unusual details and accessories resembles their works of art, almost like a graphic or a painting. Sascha Koneva Berlin's clothes are made in limited editions and as individual pieces with the help of a small team in Berlin. Jewelry and accessories are usually unique, as they are specially made by the designer for the fashion collection.
