Alessandro Di Robilant (born October 23, 1953 in Pully , Switzerland ) is an Italian film director and screenwriter .

Life

Di Robilant grew up in Milan and began his professional career directing commercials and short films . In the feature film sector he was initially active as an assistant editor and author and made his debut in 1984 with Ancha lei fumava il sigaro , an unconventional contribution in the midst of the then very mainstream film industry that attracted the attention of critics. Il nodo alla cravatta , created in 1991, tells of the turmoil between two worlds of an adolescent boy and shows Di Robilant's cinematic development towards social issues.

With Il giudice ragazzino the director made his breakthrough in 1994; The multiple award-winning film, which was shown in competition at the Berlin Film Festival, is a biography of Rosario Livatino, who was murdered by the Mafia . After a documentary film, De Robilant made a mafia story with the Vite blindate made for the RAI in 1997; the two-parter La voce del sangue is set in Calabria .

In the new millennium, the main theme of De Robilants changed, who filmed biographical and more intimate themes. Per semper with Giancarlo Giannini , created in 2003, divided critics and audiences alike; back on television, L'uomo della carità was created in 2006 about Luigi De Liegro , the founder of Caritas Diocesana di Roma . Marpiccolo from 2009 approaches the difficult youth of someone growing up in Taranto with the Di Robilant “own style of perfect narration, especially about multi-dimensional characters, which particularly illuminates the emotional depths. The film sums up failure, love, boys and girls ”.
