Alessandro Magnasco
Alessandro Magnasco (also called Lissandrino , * 1667 in Genoa , † 1749 ibid) was an Italian painter.
Although Magnasco was born in Genoa, he spent most of his life in Milan, where he continued his artistic career. He received a strong influence from the artists Francesco Guardi and Marco Ricci .
At the beginning of his artistic career he distinguished himself primarily through portraits. Today, however, almost nothing is known of his early work. Only later did he paint the motifs for which he later became known. Mainly he referred to melodramatic scenes that were set in stormy landscapes, ruins and monasteries often appeared in the background of his works. The people he painted on the canvas belonged mainly to the clerical class of the population.
Due to his physical appearance, Magnasco was given the nickname Lissandrino , which means little Alessandro .
