Alewijn (noble and patrician family)
The Alewijn ( Alewyn ) were a Dutch patrician and aristocratic family .
history
The family first appears in Amsterdam in the 16th century, where they were active in commerce. In the following century they succeeded in entering the city government of Amsterdam . In 1623 the family was elevated to the French nobility. The reason for this was the claim that the family came from the French nobility and was previously called De Halluin . In the years 1815 and 1844 the introduction into the new Dutch nobility took place. In addition to the Jonkheer title, a branch of the family was awarded the title of knight in 1885 . Nowadays the family is only traceable in Germany.
