Alexander's rest - detail

Alexander's Rest is a covered bench in the Hessian spa town of Bad Schwalbach . It was erected as a memorial in August 1896 north of the city on the connecting road to Adolfseck (today's federal road 54 ). It is reminiscent of a British spa guest who had a fatal accident on a bicycle at this point and was buried in the Langenschwalbach cemetery.

The relatives of the casualty had commissioned the local stonemason, Joh. Rademacher, with the construction. Rademacher made the bench out of sandstone and added smaller ornaments as decoration. He surrounded the bank with four massive stone pillars that support a simple gable roof .

In the bank the inscription:

Alexander's Rest / Augusto 1896
Joh. Rademacher / master stone mason / L. Schwalbach

The monument has been in poor condition for several years and is in need of renovation. When the federal highway 54 was expanded after the Second World War , the road surface was raised and the lower part of the monument was buried, so that today's surface is in the area of the former seating area. The temple was re-roofed in slate in July 2013.
