Alexander Bruns

Alexander Bruns (* 1966 in Hamburg ) is a German lawyer and professor at the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg .

Life

From 1987 Bruns studied law at the University of Konstanz , where he passed his first state examination in January 1992. In 1995 he passed his second state examination in the state of Baden-Württemberg. In the meantime, and also after his second exam, he worked at the Institute for German and Foreign Civil Procedure Law, Department I at the University of Freiburg under its director Rolf Stürner as a research assistant, later as a research assistant. He received his doctorate in 1996. This was followed by a one-year research stay at the School of Law at Duke University , where he obtained his Master of Laws (LL.M) in May 1998. Bruns then returned to Freiburg as a research assistant and for the purpose of habilitation before he undertook another research stay in May 2001. As part of his habilitation, he conducted research at Harvard Law School . In February 2002 he completed his habilitation and acquired the venia legendi for the subjects civil law, civil procedural law, commercial and company law and comparative law.

From October 2002 Bruns was a professor at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen in various chairs. He turned down calls to Emory University and Justus Liebig University in Giessen . From April 2007 to September 2008 he was Dean of the Law Faculty of the University of Göttingen. He then moved to the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg to the Institute for German and Foreign Civil Procedure Law, where he is still active today. From October 2012 to September 2014 he was dean of the law faculty at the University of Freiburg.

Bruns is a member of the CDU and active in the Überlingen local association . There he also sits on the local council for the CDU. Bruns is also district treasurer of the CDU Bodenseekreis and was last confirmed in this position in September 2019.
