Alexander Chanoch
Alexander Chanoch (* June 30 jul. / 12. July 1894 greg. In Jurewitschi near Pripyat , onetime Minsk province , † after 1934) was a Russian Japanese studies, which at the University of Hamburg and the Japanese German Society in Berlin until 1934 worked.
Life
Alexander Chanoch was born as the son of the Jewish doctor Elias Chanoch near Prypiat (about 20 km from Chornobyl ). At the age of eleven he attended the Nikolaigymnasium in Leipzig . In 1911 he moved to the Alexander Gymnasium in Kronstadt , near St. Petersburg , which he successfully completed in 1913. He enrolled at the Law Faculty of Petrograd in 1915. He completed his studies in December 1919 with the state examination.
As a second course, he began studying Japanese for four semesters in 1915 at the Academy for Oriental Languages under Professor Dmitrij Pozdneev . This was followed by two semesters under Professor Yevgeny Dmitrievich Polivanov (Евге́ний Дми́триевич Полива́нов, 1891–1938). He did not continue his Japanese studies until 1923 in Hamburg under Karl Florenz . He received his doctorate with the dissertation "The autumn songs of Kokinshū" which he completed in 1924.
The next year he married the philologist Irene Garbell (* 1901 in Moscow ). The marriage ended in divorce in 1928.
He completed the translation of the poems of all seasons of the Kokinshū in 1928 ("The ancient Japanese seasonal poetry from the Kokinshū"). The language was characterized by clarity and, for the poetry, by the renunciation of form transfer; he commented briefly.
In parallel to his interest in classical Japanese literature, he dealt with the economic issues of the Far East. B. about the fertilizer industry.
With the commercial attaché of the Japanese embassy Dr. Together with Alexander Nagai , he headed the economic department of the German-Japanese working group in Berlin from 1928 , which developed into the German-Japanese society . He retained this position for the time being even after the seizure of power in 1933. Artur Görlitzer wrote to Kurt Daluege, the special police commissioner on April 24th, demanding that he be removed, which soon followed. His traces are lost in emigration.
