Alexander Erskine, 3rd Lord Erskine (* before 1450; † between March 10, 1507 and May 10, 1509), was a Scottish nobleman .

Life

His father was Thomas Erskine, 2nd Lord Erskine , his mother was Janet Douglas.

With the death of his father, at the latest in 1493, he took over his title 3rd Lord Erskine . De jure he was entitled to the title of 15th Earl of Mar (first award), but he never held it during his lifetime. This title was only confirmed posthumously in a document on June 23, 1565.

King James IV appointed him to the Privy Privy Council around 1500 . At this time he is also succeeding Patrick Hepburn, 1st Earl of Bothwell as governor of Dumbarton Castle .

Marriages and offspring

He was married twice. In his first marriage he was married to Christian Crichton, widow of Sir Robert Colville, daughter of Robert Crichton of Sanquhar, no later than October 9, 1466. From this marriage he had three children:

After his first wife died in 1477/78, he had Helen Home († after 1512), widow of Adam Hepburn, Master of Hailes († around 1479), daughter of Alexander Home, 1. Lord Home , married. This marriage remained childless.
