from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Robert Erskine, 4th Lord Erskine († September 9, 1513 at the Battle of Flodden Field ), was a Scottish nobleman .

Life

He was the son and heir of Alexander Erskine, 3rd Lord Erskine , from his first marriage to Christian Crichton, a daughter of Robert Crichton of Sanquhar.

With the death of his father between March 10, 1507 and May 10, 1509, he took on the title of 4th Lord Erskine . De jure he was also entitled to the title of 16th Earl of Mar (first award), but he never held it during his lifetime. This title was only confirmed posthumously in a document on June 23, 1565.

John Erskine was probably born around 1470. Nothing is known about his life, except for his marriage and his death in the Battle of Flodden Field, in which he is referred to as "Lord Erskine of Ovir Achlesky, Strathearn".

He married Isabel Campbell († 1518), a daughter of George Campbell of Loudoun († 1492) , around 1485 . With her he had three sons and four daughters:

  • John Erskine, 5th Lord Erskine († 1555),
  • James Erskine of Little Saudie,
  • Robert Erskine,
  • Christian Erskine († 1564), ⚭ Sir John Colquhoun of Luss,
  • Margaret Erskine, ⚭ Sir James Haldane of Gleneagles,
  • Mary Erskine, ⚭ Alexander Cuninghame of Drumquhassle,
  • Elizabeth Erskine, ⚭ Sir James Forrester of Torwood and of Garden.
