Alexander Endjukowski originally studied Mordovian and published his first work on topics of Mordovian linguistics and literature .

After defending his dissertation in the early 1930s, he worked as a researcher and lecturer at the Institute of the Peoples of the North in Leningrad , where he taught Sami students and undertook research trips to the Kola Peninsula . Together with Sachari Tschernjakow , Endyukovsky played the leading role in language planning and the creation of a written language for the Sami languages in the Soviet Union .

Endyukovsky fell victim to the Stalin terror at the end of the 1930s . As the alleged leader of an armed Sami conspiracy against Soviet power, he was executed in 1938. Fifteen other defendants suffered the same fate, including Samen from Lowozero and the researcher Vasily Alymow from Murmansk .
