Lovozero ( Russian Ловозеро ; Finnish Luujärvi ; kildinsamisch Луяввьр , Lujawwr ) is a village in the Murmansk Oblast in northwestern Russia with 2,871 inhabitants (14 October 2010).
geography
The distance to the regional capital Murmansk is 164 kilometers in a north-westerly direction. The village is the administrative center and, after the urban-type settlement of Rewda, the second largest of the five localities of the Lowozero district.
history
The settlement of the place on the river Wirma not far from the lake Lowozero goes back to the year 1574.

The Sami author and language activist Alexandra Antonova lived in Lowozero. Likewise Askold Baschanow , in whose honor a street was named in 2012.
Culture
A large part of the approximately 1500 Sami of the Russian Federation live in Lowosero today . Some of them keep the Kildinsamische language as a colloquial language. Sami cultural events take place regularly in Lowosero. The guests also included the Sami singer Mari Boine .
Economy and Infrastructure
The largest farm in the settlement is the collective reindeer herding "Tundra". Fishing, hunting and collecting wild fruits are also important. Two kilometers to the southeast is an army helicopter base.
The nearest train station is in Olenegorsk , 70 kilometers away , where a road leads.
A monitoring station of the SDCM system is located on site .
