Widjajewo ( Russian Видяево ) is the settlement of a naval base of the Russian Northern Fleet on the Kola Peninsula on the Barents Sea in Murmansk Oblast . The place has 5771 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

The closed settlement is 80 km east of the Norwegian border and 30 km north-northwest of the city of Murmansk on the Uriza River near the western Ura Bay (Ura-Guba). The closed city of Zaozjorsk is 20 km to the west .

The city serves as a settlement for the two base ports 2 km north on Ura Bay and 6 km north on Ara Bay.

Widjajewo was founded on July 31, 1958 and initially named after the Uritsa river . On July 6, 1964, the settlement was renamed in honor of the submarine commander in World War II Fyodor Widjajew ( Фёдор Алексеевич Видяев ).

The head of the city administration is Sergei Michailowitsch Dubowoi ( Сергей Михайлович Дубовой ).

Widjajewo was the home port of the submarine K-141 Kursk , which sank in 2000 . President Vladimir Putin visited Vvyayevo relatively late after the disaster, which caused displeasure among the Russian public.
