Alexander II (Epirus)
Alexander II. ( Greek Ἀλἑξανδρος ; † 245/40 BC) succeeded his father Pyrrhus I as king of the Molossians and hegemon of Epirus in 272 BC. His mother was Lanassa , the daughter of King Agathocles of Syracuse . Alexander died around 242 BC. Chr.
He attacked Antigonus II Gonatas of Macedonia and conquered most of his country, but was expelled successively from both Macedonia and Epirus by his son, Demetrios II . With the help of the Acarnanians and Aetolians , he managed to recapture his kingdom.
Alexander had married his (half) sister Olympias , the only sibling among the Aiakids . They had two sons, Pyrrhos II and Ptolemaios , and the daughter Phthia, who was married to Demetrios II of Macedonia.
