Alexander Mischon

Alexander Michailowitsch Mischon ( Russian Александр Михайлович Мишон ; * 1858 in Charkow , † July 5, 1921 near Samara ) was a Russian photographer and director. He is one of the film pioneers for the cinema of Russia and Azerbaijan .

Life

Mishon was born in Kharkov into a family of French descent, grew up there and began his career as a photographer in his hometown. There he owned a photo studio until he moved to Baku . He lived there for the next 25 years.

In 1898 he finally began to make his first films with a cinematographer from the Lumière brothers , mostly capturing impressions of events and landscapes. Some of his films have been shown internationally. His cinematic work can be attributed to both Russian and Azerbaijani cinema, since Azerbaijan was then part of Russia.

Mishon died near Samara in 1921.
