Alexander Wassiljewitsch Ustinow ( Russian Александр Васильевич Устинов ; * 1909 in Moscow ; † February 8, 1995 ) was a Soviet photographer, photojournalist and author.

Ustinov began taking photos in the 1930s and quickly became a freelance correspondent for the Krasnaya Voin and Krasnaya Zvezda newspapers . From 1935 to 1937 he photographed the construction of the Moscow subway . From 1939 he was employed as a photographer for the newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda .

From 1941 to 1945 - during the Second World War - Alexander Ustinov was war correspondent for Pravda . In this context, he created the historic photos of the first meeting of American and Soviet soldiers on Elbe Day on April 25, 1945. On the morning of April 16, Ustinow was ordered by Marshal Konew to fly to Kreinitz to do a photo report on the first encounter of the US Army with the Red Army to produce. Since the event had already taken place the day before, it was recreated with the original protagonists: those involved in the patrol of Lt. Albert Kotzebue , including Joe Polowsky , boarded the pull ferry again and were received again by Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Gordejew, officers Alexander Goloborodko, Kozlov, Ivanov and medical sergeant Lyuba Kozintschenkowa so that Ustinov could take the photos. Then he flew back to Moscow. Parallel to Ustinow, Georgiy Khomzor (1914–1990) photographed the events in Kreinitz and also in Torgau, who reported for Krasnaya Zvezda .

After the war, Ustinov became the official photographer for the government of the Soviet Union in 1945. His photos have been exhibited internationally several times.

In May 1984 Ustinow visited the Riesa-Torgau region again.
