Alexander Wilson (photographer)
Alexander Wilson (* before 1870 in Duns , Berwickshire ; † 1922 ) was a Scottish hobby photographer and for more than 20 years the overseer in a jute weaving mill in Dundee .
Life
Wilson moved to Dundee in his twenties and became the editor of the Baltic Street Calendar of Baxter Brothers in Dundee. For more than 30 years he devoted his free time to photography. He was particularly interested in architectural photos. He took black and white photographs of buildings in Dundee from the 1870s to 1905 . He photographed many of the buildings that subsequently disappeared in Dundee during renovation work.
Before his death in 1922, he donated the majority of his 5,000 glass negatives to the Free Library Committee of Dundee City Council, along with £ 50 to pay at least the initial cost of their maintenance.
