Alexandra Salmela (born November 7, 1980 in Bratislava , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak writer who lives in Finland and writes in Finnish .

Life

Alexandra Salmela studied theater and dramaturgy at the University of Musical Arts in Bratislava , followed by a master's degree in Finnish at the Charles University in Prague . Already in her youth she wrote poems and short stories. After moving to Finland she started her first novel. In 2010 she finally made her debut with 27 eli kuolema tekee taiteilijan . The book has been translated into several languages, including English and Slovak. For the best debut she was awarded the Helsingin-Sanomat Literature Prize. She was nominated for the Finlandia Prize and the Slovak Literature Prize Anasoft litera.

Salmela lives in Tampere with her husband and their two children .
