Alexis Kay'ree Hornbuckle (born October 16, 1985 in Charleston , West Virginia , United States ) is a former professional basketball player. She last played in the 2013 season for the Phoenix Mercury in the Women's National Basketball Association .
Career
college
Alexis Hornbuckle played for the Tennessee Lady Volunteers , the University of Tennessee's women's basketball team , from 2005 to 2008 . She was elected to the All-SEC Freshmen Team in her freshman season for the Lady Volunteers . In 2007 she was elected to the All-SEC First Team and SEC All-Tournament Team. Horbuckle played in the four years at college alongside Candace Parker with whom she won the 2007 and 2008 NCAA Women's Division I Basketball Tournament .
Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA)
Alexis Hornbuckle was selected fourth in the 2008 WNBA Draft by the Detroit Shock . The 2008 season was her first season in the WNBA. In their debut season, Hornbuckle was used in every game, but was never in the starting lineup of the Shock. She won the WNBA championship with the team and was appointed to the WNBA's all-rookie team. In the 2009 season, their operating times increased, as did their statistical values. She was regularly in the starting lineup of the Shock but could not repeat the team success of the previous season. After the team moved to Tulsa before the 2010 season , Hornbuckle played a few games for the Tulsa Shock . During that season, she moved to the Minnesota Lynx . There she was only used as a supplementary player and her playing times were reduced. With the team she was able to win the WNBA championship for the second time in 2011 . After winning the title, Alexis Hornbuckle moved to the Phoenix Mercury team for two years . After she was regularly in the starting line-up there in 2012 , she played almost exclusively as a supplementary player in the following season and her playing times were reduced.
After her time in Phoenix, she did not play a WNBA game. Up to this point she played in 6 WNBA seasons in the regular season 187 games, she was 57 May in the starting lineup and scored 866 points, 594 rebounds and 336 assists. In 22 playoff games (including 5 in the starting line-up) she scored 129 points, 88 rebounds and 50 assists.
Europe
During the WNBA season break, Hornbuckle played, like many WNBA players, for clubs in Europe. It was in the 2008/09 season for the Turkish club Beşiktaş Istanbul on the field. Since December 2018 she has been playing for the Polish club Artego Bydgoszcz .
