Alfonso de Elías

Alfonso de Elías (born August 30, 1902 in Mexico City , † 1984 ibid) was a Mexican composer.

Elías studied at the National Conservatory of Mexico from 1915 to 1927, where he won first prize in the national piano competition. From 1958 he taught piano, harmony and composition at the University of Mexico, and since 1963 at the National Conservatory. He also worked as an organist at the churches of Santa Brígida and San Francisco .

He composed three symphonies , a ballet , a triptych for orchestra, two string quartets , pieces for cello and piano, a violin sonata, a suite nupcial for tenor, organ and orchestra, three masses and motets , chamber music, piano works and songs.
