Alfred Agache (painter)
Alfred-Pierre Joseph Agache , better known as Alfred Agache (born August 29, 1843 in Lille , † September 15, 1915 ibid) was a French academic painter of the Belle Époque .
Life
Alfred Agache's family was wealthy. His father was gifted as a painter and artist. However, his family refused to train Alfred Agache, but encouraged his artistic inclination as a painter.
Little is known about the life of Alfred Agache, who exhibited his works regularly in Paris until his death . Agache specialized in portraits and large-scale allegorical paintings. He had a close friendship with the American painter James McNeill Whistler (1834-1903) and the writer Auguste Angellier (1848-1911), who dedicated a book to him. Until his death in 1915 he held the post of Conservateur général des Musées de Lille .
