Alfred Buckowitz

Alfred Buckowitz (born January 25, 1888 ; † 1966 ) was a German writer and animal psychologist who lived in Rostock . He was best known for his animal stories.

Life

Alfred Buckowitz initially grew up next to the Berlin Zoo. In Freiburg he studied agriculture, economics and zoology. In the First World War he served as a soldier. Later worked as an estate inspector in West and East Prussia. Around the age of 60 he began to write down his experiences with tame and wild animals. At an advanced age he gave more than 350 lectures in Rostock schools as well as in Saxony and Thuringia. In his last years he was blind. For his work as a writer he had an assistant who particularly supported him in writing his stories and mail.
