Alfred Christlieb Kalischer

Alfred Christlieb Kalischer (born March 4, 1842 in Thorn ; † October 8, 1909 in Berlin ) was a German writer and musicologist.

Life

Kalischer was the son of Rabbi Zwi Hirsch Kalischer (1795–1874) from his marriage to Henrietta (Gütel) Kalischer born. Cohn (approx. 1802-1889).

He studied philology in Leipzig and received his doctorate in 1866. He then settled in Berlin and perfected his musical education with Constantin Bürgel (piano) and C. Böhmer. He then worked as a private teacher for piano and theory as well as for Latin and Greek. He later taught ancient languages ​​at the Humboldt Academy , a private institute for adult education.

At the same time, he was music editor of the Neue Berliner Musikzeitung in 1873/74 and wrote numerous articles for the magazines Der Klavierlehrer , Die Musik and the Sunday supplement of the Vossische Zeitung .

Kalischer stood out in particular with publications on Ludwig van Beethoven , including the first text-critical complete edition of his letters.
