Alfred George Hinds
Alfred George "Alfie" Hinds ( 1917 - January 5, 1991 ) was a British criminal who escaped from three maximum security prisons during his 12-year prison term for robbery . Despite thirteen of his appeals to higher courts being turned down, he was ultimately able to obtain a pardon thanks to his knowledge of the British legal system.
In 1966, Hinds published a biography of his escape and conflict with the English legal system, entitled Contempt of Court , and became a member of Mensa International .
