Alfred Hartmann (* 1947 ) is a German shipowner .

Life

Hartmann is a trained ship broker and shipping agent . After training and seafaring as a cadet at North German Lloyd , he went as a nautical officer and later - after studying to become a captain on long voyages at the University of Emden / Leer - as a captain on merchant ships . After a time as a construction supervisor for new ships , he became head of personnel in a shipping company.

In 1981 he started his own business and founded the Hartmann Reederei in Leer . In 1988 Hartmann founded another shipping company (Intership Navigation) in Limassol on Cyprus (focus: transport of bulk goods) and in 1995 a third shipping company (Feederlines) in Groningen (Netherlands).

In 2001 he founded Hartmann AG as the parent company of the Hartmann Group and was its CEO until June 2008; since then he has been its chairman of the board.

Since 1998 he has been a member of the administrative board of the VDR ( Association of German Shipowners , Hamburg). He has been a member of the VDR Presidium since 2013. He is also a member of the advisory board of Nord / LB and Senator hc from the University of Emden / Leer . He has been President of the VDR since January 1, 2015. He succeeds Michael Behrendt , who was VDR President from 2008 to 2014.

Hartmann is married and has three grown children.
