Alfred Jaeck (born August 2, 1911 in Allschwil ; † August 28, 1953 ) was a Swiss football and national team player. He played as a striker . In August 1953 Jaeck suffered a serious car accident, which ultimately resulted in his death.

Jaeck started his football career at FC Basel . He played two seasons for Servette FC Genève , scoring two goals in 28 appearances. He then returned in 1932 to his home club Basel for four years. In the 1932/33 season Jaeck won the Swiss Cup with FCB when Basel defeated Grasshopper Club Zurich 4-3 in the final. In the final, he scored the goal to make it 2-1. The coach at that time was Karl Kurz .

Jaeck then moved to France and spent the 1936/37 season with French first division club Olympique Lillois , followed by another two seasons with FC Mulhouse . In 1939 he finally returned to his homeland and ended his career with the home club. For Basel he scored a total of 73 goals in a total of 170 appearances.

National team

Jaeck played 28 times for the Swiss national team and scored two goals. He was part of the national team during the 1934 World Cup in Italy. On May 27, 1934, Switzerland opened the football world championship at the Stadio Calcistico di San Siro , in Milan, with a 3-2 win over the Netherlands, Leopold Kielholz scoring twice. In the quarter-finals, Switzerland met Czechoslovakia on May 31st in Turin. The game was played at a high level and was characterized by outstanding goalkeeping performances by Frank Séchehaye and František Plánička . Oldřich Nejedlý decided with a goal in the 82nd minute to 3-2 the game for the later finalists.
