Alfred Maul (sports educator)

Alfred Maul (born April 13, 1828 in Michelstadt ; † October 12, 1907 in Karlsruhe ) was a German gymnastics teacher and guide. He is considered the Baden gymnastics father and was chairman of the German Gymnastics Association .

Alfred Maul was taught at the Realschule and the Polytechnic in Darmstadt , where, in addition to studying natural sciences and mathematics, he was also a student of Adolf Spieß . During his studies he joined the Corps Hassia . From 1856 he worked as a teacher for mathematics and gymnastics at the Realgymnasium in Basel . In 1869 he became director of the gymnastics teacher training institute in Karlsruhe. Since 1866 he wrote various guides for school sports, including instructions for gymnastics lessons in boys' schools and gymnastics exercises for girls . From 1888 to 1894 he was in charge of the German Gymnastics Association .
