Alfred S. Sussman

Alfred Sheppard Sussman (born July 4, 1919 in Portsmouth (Virginia) , † November 19, 2001 ) was an American botanist and mycologist .

Sussman grew up in New York and received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Connecticut in 1941. He then served in the US Army medical service. In 1948 he completed his Masters and in 1949 he received his PhD from Harvard University .

From 1950 Sussman was at the University of Michigan , from 1961 to 1990 as a professor. His research focus was the hose fungus Neurospora .
