Alfred Schulz van Treeck

Alfred Schulz van Treeck (born October 20, 1903 in Berlin ; † February 28, 1958 there ) was a German doctor and pioneer of otoscopy .

Life

Alfred Schulz initially worked at the Charité ENT clinic as a scientific draftsman and photographer in the field. He enjoyed a great reputation with his then teacher and head of the ENT clinic Carl Otto von Eicken , so that he decided to study medicine and ultimately received his doctorate in 1936 on eardrum photography.

In the following years he worked together with Carl Otto von Eicken on the Atlas of Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases , which was published in 1940 and is still used today in specialist training due to its epoch-making form of presentation. The watercolor painting of enlarged eardrum photographs improved the representation of the still inadequate black and white photographs. At the same time he achieved an extraordinary visual quality, which makes the representations very valuable scientifically and didactically.

The work of Alfred Schulz van Treeck still contributes to the fundamental understanding of the disease and disease course of ear diseases and in its early years laid the foundation of today's oto-endoscopy through imaging documentation and technical innovation.
