Alfred Vallette

Alfred Vallette (born July 31, 1858 in Paris , † September 28, 1935 there ) was a French writer and editor.

Life

Vallette was the author of two novels and was best known as the founder and editor of the magazine Mercure de France , which he ran with his wife, the writer Rachilde , from 1890 to 1935. In this magazine they published two of the works by John Ruskin , The Bible of Amiens and Sesam und Lilien, translated by Marcel Proust .

He belonged to a group of writers that also included Antony Mars, Albert Samain , Charles Guérin and Victor Forbin. For many years he worked with Paul Léautaud in the magazine Mercure de France .
