Algae lime is an auxiliary and fertilizer that is preferably used in organic horticulture . Algae lime is made from deposits of red algae , contains approx. 70–80% calcium carbonate , approx. 6–10% magnesium carbonate , approx. 3–4% silicic acid and a large number of trace elements such as boron , iodine , etc. The high lime content increases the material the pH value in the soil should therefore not be used for fertilizing lime-sensitive and acid-loving plants such as B. Rhododendron can be used.

Algae lime can be used both to ward off fungi and insects by dusting the plants as well as to improve the soil and to combat soil fatigue . Therefore it is ideal for growing vegetables. The dosage is specified by the manufacturers as 3–5 kg / a per year. Algae lime is also recommended as a compost additive because it is enriched with trace elements.
