Only a year later, he and his club were able to repeat the title win. Batatais managed to win the state championship of Rio de Janeiro three more times, in 1939, 1940 and 1941, each with Fluminense. In 1942 he moved to local rivals America FC due to a lack of playing time , but returned to Fluminense after just one year and ended his career in 1947.

There the Selecao failed in the semifinals at the eventual world champion Italy . In the end, the team finished third after beating Sweden in third place . Previously, they had played against Poland 6-5 in extra time and against Czechoslovakia 2-1 in a replay, after the first game ended 1-1 after extra time and penalty shoot-outs had not yet been conceived.
