Alhousseini Mohamed Anivolla (* 1973 ) is a desert blues guitarist and composer from Niger .

Life

Alhousseini Anivolla, as he is called for short, belongs to the Imuhar or Kel Tamashek people, popularly known as the Tuareg . He himself rejects this designation because of its negative connotation. As the son of nomads, he experienced childhood and youth in the Sahara, tending goats and camels. Due to the drought, the family moved to the capital of Niger, Niamey, in 1987. Here he taught himself to play the guitar by himself and quickly became a sought-after accompanist for other desert blues guitarists such as Abdallah Oumbadougou and the Tinariwen group .

1995-2004 he joined the band Etran N'Guefan / Niger. This became Etran Finatawa in 2004. 2004-2006 he was guitarist and bassist as well as singer of the group. From 2007-2015 he was the band leader as well as the main singer and main composer of the ensemble. He toured the globe with Etran Finatawa between 2004 and 2015. He has been pursuing a solo career since 2012 and founded his new ensemble Anewal. Anewal means something like the wanderer in his mother tongue. It is borrowed from his family name Anivolla. Since 2009 he has worked with many international musicians: Guy Buttery , Eric Triton, Steve Newman, Malebo Mothema, Steven Sogo, Maarja Nuut and Huun Huur Tu . Alhousseini Anivolla has released two solo CDs. The producer was his longtime friend Colin Bass .

With the foresight of a well-traveled man, the artist uses his music to draw attention all over the world to the cultural richness of his people and the many cultures of Niger. In his songs as well as in his many contributions to interviews and discussion forums, he warns of the loss of cultural diversity around the world. The preservation of culture is its central theme. He speaks of social changes, climate change and the direct effects on his people. He comments with great regret on the conflicts in the Sahara and repeatedly calls for reconciliation and peace. Anivolla has been intensively involved in education since 2005. In workshops in schools, he brings children and young people around the world closer to nomadic life. In his own country, too, he sensitizes young people to traditions and the preservation of identity as a means of combating poverty.
