Ali Özgür Özdil (* 1969 in İskenderun , Turkey ) is a Turkish scholar of Islam and religion.

In 1977 he came to Hamburg from Turkey as a child . He studied Islamic studies, religious studies and ethnology at the University of Hamburg and received his doctorate on Islamic theology and religious education in Europe.

Since 1997 he has been training teachers, educators, Muslim mosque leaders, imams , soldiers and carers (in the field of culturally sensitive care). He is a member of the Interreligious Office (INTR ° A), co-founder of the Schura Hamburg (Council of Islamic Communities) and was a lecturer at the University of Hamburg (Faculty of Education) and the University of Osnabrück (Islamic religious education). In 2013 he founded the Intercultural Institute for Inclusion e. V. and since February 2015 has been leading the first prevention project in Hamburg in the area of ​​"violent Islamism" under the title Al Wasat - Die Mitte , which is funded by the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth .

Özdil advises four Schura associations in Hamburg , Lower Saxony , Schleswig-Holstein and Bremen and is a member of several round tables and advisory boards.

As an author he publishes on the subjects of intercultural education and interreligious dialogue, Islamic religious instruction in Germany and mosque education. His book When the Mosques Open. Mosque Education in Germany - A Practical Introduction to Islam (2002) was considered the standard work on the subject. It is no longer available today. In addition to several scientific publications and articles in various journals, he is also a co-author of various books.

Özdil is the director of the Islamic Science and Education Institute, which he founded in 2002 . V. and editor of the series of publications of the Islamic Science and Education Institute .

His work focuses on Islamic theology in Europe, mosque pedagogy, intercultural education and interreligious dialogue.
