Ali Aaltonen (* 1884 in Jämsä , † May 1918 in Hennala near Lahti ) was a lieutenant in the army of the Russian Empire , a journalist and a Finnish communist leader.

From December 1917 to January 28, 1918, Aaltonen was Commander-in-Chief of the Finnish Red Guards and, in this function, played a key role in the preparation of the attempted socialist coup, which then led to the Finnish civil war . During the war, Aaltonen led the attack on Näsinlinna in the Battle of Tampere . He was later captured at Villähde train station and sent to a prison camp. On orders from Hans Kalm , he was shot dead by the government army in Hennala in 1918 .
