Mamosta Ali Bapir , also called Sheikh Ali Bapir ( Kurdish مامۆستا عهلی باپیر, Arabic الشيخ علي بابير, born in 1961 in the Peshdar region in the Iraqi part of Kurdistan ), is a Kurdish Islamic intellectual and politician in Iraqi Kurdistan.

Life

Bapir is the founder of the Islamic Community in Kurdistan , whose fortunes he is currently leading; he is known for his moderate religious views and his modern interpretation of Islam. He is the author of over 90 books on politics, Islam, society, Kurds and Kurdistan. In the Iraqi elections for the Council of Delegates in 2009, he was one of the top 10 candidates with the most votes in the country. His party has good relations with countries in the European Union, the United States and other countries in the region.
